Assembly Required (tactical urban fabrications) draws on Hakim Bey’s idea of the Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ), a socio-political tactic of creating temporary spaces that elude formal structures of control. The purpose of this workshop was to examine and to question how access and utilization of public and semi-public urban space is facilitated or restricted. Participants worked together to collectively design poetic, performative objects that were used to activate spaces in the city.
Participants designed and tested objects which could be employed as tactical structures.
The workshop was part of the programme for the Laboratory of Common Interest, a 12 day event-space to coincide with the centenary of the Limerick Soviet (April 15 – 27).
